PREVIS
Previsualization is the primary planning tool for film makers and anyone wanting to understand certain details about a particular sequence, event, or location. Although visual effects has dominated the use of previs over the years, the actual use of previs by other departments such as Special Effects, Stunts, DOP, and Art Departments has increased. Previsualization as a planning tool as well as an aesthetic tool and is powerful and cost effective. Blind Squirrel Digital, Inc. has experience providing previs teams large and small for a few weeks or a few months. Our previs supervisors have on-set expereince and major film credits to back them up. Services we provide include aesthetic previs, technical diagramming, and postvis temp fx. We have also provided forensic visualization for criminal court cases, where we animate re-enactments of crime scenes. Our highest profile forensic animation case to date is the Phil Specter trial.
Our approach to aesthetic previs for film is based on real world dimensions with special attention to textures, modeling, and lighting, to provide as close to finished look as is possible in realtime CG output. Technical diagramming provides detailed information as to green screen dimensions and placement, camera rig setups, motion control setups, stage relevant information, gimble rigs, and multiple view layouts. Our approach to postvis is similar to that of final fx work, in that we begin by tracking shots, where necessary, and accurately integrate the temp cg elements. The elements are then rendered, and composited into the live action plate and rendered out in the desired format for editorial to cut back in. This serves as an adequate "stand in" while final fx are being produced. It can also serve to communicate to facilities exactly what is to be done for a particular shot. 2D & 3D GAME DEVELOPMENT
Blind Squirrel Digital has published several games for iPad and iPhone, as well as developed custom game solutions for branding and marketing companies. Other projects in the game development space include "serious" games that utilize the realtime game development technology for purposes outside the gaming experience. One such example is our interactive forensic solution where we recreate crime scenes in a fully immersive experience with multiple cameras, accurate locations, and detailed animations recreating the scene of the crime for courtroom presentation. This is also useful in military simulations, visualization for manufacturing, and product development and marketing.
